광교호수공원

생산적인 인프라, 공동체의 역할과 공원의 기능까지 포함하는 저수지의 본질적인 의미는 도시 안에서도 그대로다. 우리가 제안하는 도시저수지는 기억, 생명, 감성, 창조의 고유성을 가진 도시자연이자 문화적 기반이 되어 새로운 도시와 균형을 이루고 삶에 뿌리내릴 수 있는 부드러운 힘이 될 것이다. 우리의 디자인은 고안된 의미나 형태가 아니라 저수지를 둘러싼 변화에 대한 대처이다. 첫 번째 대처는 우리의 풍토와 토속적인 경관(Ethnic Style & Vernacular landscape)을 지키고 구체적인 감각을 느끼며 체험한다. 풍토경관의 구체적인 체험을 통해 얻는 감성 회복은 도시 삶을 지탱하는 정신적인 힘이 될 것이다. 두 번째 대처는 땅의 기억을 모티브로 하여 새로운 영역 Urban Levee와 둠벙(Dumbung)을 제안한다. 기존의 자연과 우리가 제안하는 영역이 대조를 이루는 경관, 의미의 중첩은 변화를 감지하며, 땅의 기억과 지속적인 연락과 새로운 환기를 줄 것이다.

토속적 풍토 경관의 회복

저수지를 둘러싼 11,282,521㎡의 나즈막한 산과 농경지가 도시로 바뀐다. 이제 저수지와 맞닿은 산만이 물에 비친 실루엣과 함께 이 땅의 기억을 말한다. 우리의 토속경관은 개발의 대상이 되는 물리적 대지가 아니라, 밝고 어두움, 차갑고 따뜻함, 색과 질감, 소리, 은유, 반영, 관조와 명상으로 구체적인 감각을 느끼며 체험되는 대상이다. 즉, 우리 내면의 감성을 끌어내며 인격체를 대신한다. 조망 좋은 곳에 정자 하나를 더하고 고요한 물위에 배 한 척 띄우는 산수 유람은 우리의 정신과 정서를 보여주며, 시와 노래를 지어 부르는 창조적 행위와 예술적 감흥을 포함한다. 광교산과 연결되는 녹지축과 원천저수지 동쪽, 신대저수지 주변의 산은 토속경관으로 보존되며 이곳에 산과 물이 주는 소리와 색, 질감과 향기, 빛과 바람의 구체적인 체험을 짓는다. 일시적인 풍경은 공원의 중요한 체험이자 경관이 된다. 사람들은 움직이는 몸짓의 나무처럼 산책하고 시를 읽듯 음미하게 될 것이다. 감성의 자극은 해독을 원하는 도시민을 씻겨준다.

현실적인 대처 : 기존의 땅의 기억을 그대로 둔 채 새로운 영역을 마련하다.

땅이 가진 고유한 특성과 연락되는 새로운 영역을 마련한다. 자연의 고유한 성을 감지하여 새롭게 창조된 장소를 제안 한다. 두 영역의 중첩 또는 극명한 대조는 변화의 과정을 감지 할 수 있으며 도시와 자연, 일상과 환타지, 인간과 모든 생명과의 공존의 메시지를 전달한다. 각각의 영역들은 사람들의 활동이 장소를 규정하는 '일시적으로 형성된 공간 (temporalized space)'으로 도시에 활력을 불어넣고 공동체를 고양 시킨다.

URBAN RESERVOIR Dealing with Change

We look down below at the theatrical rhapsody of the hills and water mingling with the city. The green axis traversing Gwanggyo New City meets with the mountain ridge of Lakeside Park and extends to the neighboring city. Two lakes and mountains representing the indigenous values of the region is able to accommodate a city. They meet with a New City (Gwanggyo) to attempt at a small transformation. The inherent characteristics of a reservoir encompassing functions of an infrastructure for production, a natural park, and symbolism for the community are valid even when the reservoir is inside a city. Our design derives neither from a conceptual concoction nor artificial form, but rather from the idea that we react to the transformations involving the reservoir.

Thus, our first reactive proposal is to preserve the vernacular landscape and ethnic style and offer opportunities for true sensory experience. Second, we propose the new urban levee and Dumbung, based on the motif of "remembrance of our land." We hope that our two proposals will accommodate the daily demands and recreational needs of the 77,500 urban dwellers, and meet Gwanggyo's challenges in incorporating a convention center, business park, housing complex, and power center.

Vernacular landscape & Ethnic Style

The low-lying hills and farmland covering 11,282,521㎡ will transform into an urban town. Only the hills touching the reservoir and its mirror image reflected off of the water will hold the memories of the surrounding land. Our idea of a vernacular landscape is not a physical piece of land subject to development. It is rather that something which elicits true sensory experience through contrasts between light and dark and cold and warm, colors, textures, sounds, metaphors, reflections, contemplations, and meditations.

Idea from the Indigenous Value and Cultural Memories of the Region

The new areas, derived from the motif reflecting the indigenous values and cultural memories of the region, is where nature and city meet and humans and all other forms of life coexist. They are the urban levee and Dumbung, both extensions of the local values and each serving the needs of the city. The overlapping and/or sharply contrasting areas of the new and old instill renewed excitement. The urban levee and Dumbung give new meaning to the city. We propose to create the urban levee as a beach and passageway to the city and the Dumbung as a new type of resting place for the urban dwellers.
